What is Delta 8?

By Jason Tillotson, Copywriter

Last week we wrote about the differences between THC and CBD and how the “entourage effect” can influence your cannabis experience. This week, we’re doing a deep dive on a little known but increasingly trendy cannabinoid called Delta-8 THC. In this #FlowerzFriday blog post, we’ll be outlining what exactly Delta-8 THC is, how it differs from its chemically-similar cousins (THC & THCa) and how it affects the body and mind.

But first! Join us in celebrating the launch of our brand new Delta-8 THC cartridges by taking 20% off your entire order with code COPE2020!

Delta 8 vs Delta 9 THC

Along with CBD, CBG and Delta 9 THC is one of the most common cannabinoids known to cannabis scientists. Although Delta-9 is a household name amongst most cannabis professionals, it’s not as well known to the average consumer.

Basically, Delta 9 THC is the compound that creates the traditional psychoactive “high” feeling that we all know. It’s chemically akin to Delta 8 THC. It is so similar that it’s said to produce the same effects at “regular” THC, just dialed down a bit.

It’s even said that Delta-8 THC can give you a sort of “high” feeling without the anxiety or nausea that THC can sometimes induce. In fact, Delta 8 THC has been prescribed specifically for nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy.

How Delta-8 affects the body and mind

Delta-8 THC has been used to alleviate similar ailments as its relatives, just with a more psychoactive baseline. So the next time you’re feeling that heart rate increase, reach for our Delta-8 carts instead of high potency distillate.

Is Delta 8 legal?

Yes! Just because Delta-8 THC is so close to Delta-9, many think it’s also a Schedule-I narcotic. Even though they are only separated by one number, it’s not, so long as it is hemp-derived. All hemp-derived cannabis products containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC, are federally legal under 2018’s Farm Bill.

You’ll find that all our Delta-8 cartridges are fully compliant with the Farm Bill and can be shipped to almost all 50 states!

Where can I get some?

Delta-8 THC is a new player to the cannabis game, so they’re kind of hard to come by. But lucky for you, we have three (yes, three!) brand new Delta-8 THC cartridges for you to try. Our initial launch of these trendy new carts include three different strains: Blue Dream, Pineapple Express and, just in time for the holiday season, Sugar Cookie!

How is Rosin made?

Rosin can be made from either cannabis flower or hash, which is the collected kief (trichomes) of the Cannabis plant. If you have a grinder with a kief catch, you are probably already familiar! Rosin made from cannabis nugs tends to be slightly more difficult to enjoy, as plant matter almost always impacts the rosin. This does not impede the rosin’s potency but can cause an unpleasant flavor or smell for the user.

Once the cannabis source material is chosen, heat and pressure are applied. Most rosin for sale in dispensaries is created in a custom industrial press, though some users choose to make their own rosin at home with a hair straightener.

The applied heat and pressure to the cannabis material force out the cannabinoids and terpenes, similar to how canola or olives are pressed for oil. The end result is a cannabis concentrate with THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids as well as terpenes. The temperature and pressure applied correlate to the type of rosin produced. Rosin can be made into shatter, budder, taffy, and wax consistencies.
