You may have heard the term “sober-ish” or “damp drinking”. That’s because many young adults are cutting back on alcohol and looking for alternatives – and lots of Gen Zers and Millennials are finding it in cannabis.

Gen Z is drinking 20% less than millennials at their age, and a growing number of them are abstaining from alcohol altogether. Millennials are drinking less than Gen X and Boomers. But that doesn’t mean these groups are all going totally sober. According to Brightfield Group, 37% of Gen Zers prefer cannabis to alcohol and 20% of all people who say they are drinking less are substituting with cannabis. And what better way to sub-in cannabis for alcohol than with a cannabis infused drink that can help you find your buzz without feeling hungover the next day.

Why cannabis infused drinks provide a healthier and more controlled experience

One of the biggest reasons young adults are reaching for cannabis seltzers and other infused drinks is because they can avoid hangovers and next-day anxieties. We’ve all been there. Waking up after a night of drinking “wait, is everyone mad at me?” Unlike alcohol that disrupts your sleep, cannabis may actually help you sleep better and can help relieve your stress and anxiety rather than adding to it.

Aside from offering a buzz without the boozy hangovers, cannabis infused drinks provide a healthier alternative to alcohol. They typically have fewer calories and need less consumption to feel the effects. Cannabis infused drinks also offer a different way to experience cannabis. No need for smoking or vaping, which can come with their own negative health effects with too much consumption.

In addition, cannabis in liquid form provides a more controlled experience. Unlike edibles that can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in, nothing needs to be broken down or digested in your body, so you can feel the effects of a cannabis infused drink within 10-15 minutes. With cannabis infused drinks, you can avoid that all-at-once “the edible just hit” feeling that can catch many off guard.

A familiar way to partake

For new cannabis consumers, the OG form of grinding and rolling flower can be intimidating. Flower, concentrates, and even vapes can come with other accessories like grinders, papers, dab kits, and batteries that can be overwhelming for the canna-curious.

The similarities between alcohol and cannabis infused drinks provide a familiar way to engage without booze or the bells and whistles that come with other traditional forms of cannabis. For first timers, they may not know how to roll a joint or take a dab properly, but they’ve likely had an alcoholic beverage before. People understand that taking a shot differs from sipping a cocktail or glass of wine. It’s the same for cannabis infused seltzers or sodas – except your head won’t be killing you the next day. This is a great way for newcomers to control their cannabis experience.

Cannabis infused drinks even come in similar bottles or cans. You might even mistake it for an alcoholic seltzer or a beer at a party, making it an easy way to blend right in and avoid the “why aren’t you drinking?” questions. So if you’re interested in cannabis, but feel intimidated by flower or just want a different cannabis experience, cannabis infused drinks are an easy alternative. All you need to do is open the can!

Other flowerz cannabis alternatives to alcohol

Our flowerz cannabis infused seltzers are a great alternative to alcohol, but they are not the only way to sub in cannabis for alcohol.

Tinctures are cannabis infused oils that can be taken sublingually (under your tongue) or you can add them right into your drink to make your own cannabis infused mocktail. We have three tinctures available: Relief, Recovery, and Uplift. If you’re looking for something psychoactive, add a couple drops of flowerz Recovery tincture and flowerz Relief tincture to a non-infused seltzer, smoothie, or other drink. Both of these tinctures are geared toward pain or muscle relief, so a few drops of these can pack a punch. Make sure to read the dosing guides carefully for optimal experience.

If you want something that energizes but doesn’t make you jittery, try adding a couple drops of flowerz Uplift tincture to your morning tea, however, is a combination of CBG and CBD, so you’ll feel energetic without any jitters, but you won’t feel high.

How is Rosin made?

Rosin can be made from either cannabis flower or hash, which is the collected kief (trichomes) of the Cannabis plant. If you have a grinder with a kief catch, you are probably already familiar! Rosin made from cannabis nugs tends to be slightly more difficult to enjoy, as plant matter almost always impacts the rosin. This does not impede the rosin’s potency but can cause an unpleasant flavor or smell for the user.

Once the cannabis source material is chosen, heat and pressure are applied. Most rosin for sale in dispensaries is created in a custom industrial press, though some users choose to make their own rosin at home with a hair straightener.

The applied heat and pressure to the cannabis material force out the cannabinoids and terpenes, similar to how canola or olives are pressed for oil. The end result is a cannabis concentrate with THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids as well as terpenes. The temperature and pressure applied correlate to the type of rosin produced. Rosin can be made into shatter, budder, taffy, and wax consistencies.
